The UPTURN Leadership Academy is a paid, 4-week leadership series that develops and builds upon the knowledge and skills of young people interested in learning the origins of social justice, social movements, and building power within themselves to show up for and within their community; with up to 50 other young people across Oregon! At it's core, this is an introductory course into community organizing 101.

About Next Up

Next Up is a 501(c)3 nonpartisan nonprofit organization that is a civic home to build upon the collective power and leadership of young people to secure a more just and equitable Oregon. At Next Up, we believe young people have the right to participate in decision-making about the world in which we live and the future we will inherit. We are dedicated to centering and uplifting youth voices, and creating supportive spaces for young people to advocate for ourselves and our generations. This belief and passion led to the creation of programs like UPTURN.

Application Deadline: Sunday, June 14th at 11:59 PST.

Location: The program is entirely virtual, a cell phone or laptop will be needed to join meetings.

Duration: UPTURN Leadership Academy will run from July 14th through August 6th; with meetings held twice a week.

Onboarding: Participants may be required to attend one in-person onboarding session between 6/29-7/9 in order to participate in the program.

Compensation: Participants will be paid $23/hour. Please expect to dedicate an average of 5 hours a week.

Meeting Dates: Cohort sessions will be held on Tuesdays & Thursdays.

  • UPTURN Session 6 - Thurs, July 30th 12-3pm

  • UPTURN Session 7 - Tues, August 4th 12-3pm

  • UPTURN Session 8 - Thurs, August 6th 12-3pm 

qualifications

  • You live in Oregon.

  • You are ages 14+

  • Have access to reliable wifi and a smart device (computer, tablet, phone) to access Zoom.

  • You can commit to attending all 8 meetings.

  • You have a passion for social justice, and social change.
