Metro future vision youth committee
The Future Vision Youth Committee will help guide the creation the Future Vision, a 50-year visionary outlook for the region.

Apply to join the Future Vision Youth Committee to help shape the future for yourself, your family and your community. Youth with unique lived experiences, who come from various cultural backgrounds, whether born in Oregon or moved here with family, who live with a disability, or who navigate intersecting identities are encouraged to apply.

Help create the future you want to see! Metro is teaming up with Next Up and Blueprint Foundation to recruit 20 youth to help develop the Future Vision for the region.
The committee will help shape the direction of the vision while deepening their civic leadership skills and engaging with other youth and community members along the way.
The Future Vision will create a foundation of shared values to guide regional programs, plans and policies in the future. It will touch on a wide range of topics, including land use, transportation, our economy, housing, climate, nature, arts and culture.
qualifications
This opportunity is for youth between 16 and 24 years old who live, work, go to school or spend a lot of time in Clackamas, Multnomah or Washington County.
No previous knowledge in the topics of housing, economy, climate, nature, arts and culture is required, however related lived experience, passion or interest is a plus. The curriculum will include support and education needed to meaningfully participate.
Applicants should have an interest in any of the following:
Creating a positive future for your community
Pushing your imagination beyond its limits
Becoming the best future ancestor you can be
Improving access to housing and jobs, supporting the local economy, protecting nature, addressing climate change, increasing transportation options, arts and culture, or education
Sharing your ideas with others, including fellow community leaders and elected officials
Creating art to connect with others and express your ideas
Learning how to get answers and advocate for yourself
Accommodations for language or ADA accessibility will be provided as needed.
time commitment and stipend
Alongside the Future Vision Commission, the Future Vision Youth Committee will oversee the project through its completion in 2027 and provide recommendations to Metro Council and project staff.
Meetings are expected to be between 2-3 hours.
Meetings will take place 1-2 times per month from February 2026 and February 2027. Approximately 12 meetings are expected.
Committee members should attend at least 80% of all scheduled meetings in-person between 2026 through 2027.
$100 stipend provided per meeting attended.

Be willing to honor and share your personal, school or work lived experiences in your committee work in a way that feels authentic for you (verbally, in writing, video, through art, etc.)
Be curious and open to hearing different perspectives and ways of communicating.
Be kind, supportive, and respectful to all members of the committee, staff and volunteers.
Review materials before each meeting and be prepared to contribute your questions, concerns, ideas or inspirations.
