Weโ€™re seeking a committed, full-time Data Manager to power up our team over the next year. 

Weโ€™re looking for someone who believes in the power of young people to create change through responsive organizing, political education, and advocacy. Our ideal candidate is collaborative, detail-oriented, resourceful and persistent in solving technical and data problems, and committed to the leadership of Black, Indigenous, and youth of color.

Compensation and benefits

This positionโ€™s salary is $64,799. Our compensation philosophy and policy include annual salary increases. Benefits include medical, vision, and dental coverage (with 100% of the premium covered by the employer), a 4-day (32 hour) work week, a laptop computer, professional development funds, cell phone and work from home stipends, flexible scheduling, 20 days of PTO per year, and paid holidays including a two week office closure in December each year.

Duration

Full-time (32 hours/week), limited duration (1 year). Evening and weekend work may be required during campaign seasons. Ideal start date: June 17, 2024. Position end date: June 30, 2025. There is potential to convert this role into a permanent position depending on funding.

Location

โ€‹Our office is in Portland, Oregon. We have a hybrid work policy that requires full-time staff to work at least two days per week in-person. For this role, one day per week is required in-person (Mondays). Biannual team retreats and a few major events are required in-person as well.

responsibilities

  • Assess historical data management and establish a larger vision for data management across the organization

  • Support the organization to track, organize, and regularly update our staff metrics for internal and external stakeholders

  • Ensure best practices for data collection and recording across programs, civic engagement, advocacy, fundraising and get out the vote efforts

  • Support the Movement Building Director and Policy Director to create and implement impactful plans for large-scale civic engagement and advocacy in Oregon

  • Create reports to track progress to goals that provide actionable information to leadership

  • Ensure data from volunteer and voter engagement tools regularly sync to EveryAction

  • Query and interpret relevant data to help our Communications and Development staff tell the story of our work and impact

  • Support Development Director with donor communications and grant reports, including querying and visualizing data that illustrates our impact

  • Support Development and Programs teams to collect and report quantitative and qualitative data, including story collection through outreach to program participants

  • Participate in long-term strategy discussions, bringing a data-informed perspective

  • Build out rules of engagement with our systems, especially in EveryAction

  • Evaluate, document, and train staff on data processes and naming conventions

  • Establish and support employee compliance with best practices around data security

desired qualifications

  • Commitment to our mission, with an appreciation for the role of community organizing in social change and movement building

  • Passion for amplifying youth voices and commitment to always centering the leadership and needs of Black, Indigenous, and youth of color in organizing work

  • Experience working with underrepresented and/or historically marginalized communities, preferably in political or organizing settings 

  • Deep commitment to dismantling racism, understanding systemic and institutional racism, and a willingness to learn and discuss racial and social justice issues

  • Strong time management and organizational skills including experience  managing multiple projects; ability to triage and prioritize among competing projects and deadlines

  • Understanding of common direct voter contact programs and experience using data to inform plans and evaluate progress

  • At least two to three years of data management experience, ideally at least one of those years spent in a political role

  • Strong VAN, EveryAction, and/or other database skills

  • Patience and ability to work well with people at a variety of skill and experience levels, including being able to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences

Preferred but not required 

  • Experience running youth programming or doing youth centered organizing

  • Knowledge and/or relationships with c3 and c4 infrastructure groups such as State Voices and America Votes

  • Knowledge of and experience with Oregon political landscape 

  • Experience with data visualization tools

  • Familiarity with ThruText and ThruTalk as an administrator
