Building Young Leaders for Democracy

summer fellows

UPTURN is a no cost, bi-annual program for high school students in Oregon

that facilitates building political power, engaging their community, and becoming thoughtful activists.

The Summer/Fall cohort has already begun, please check back in December 2019 to apply to be a part of this program!

Core Tenets

There are monthly meetings where participants take part in workshops on politics and the historical contexts of today's political climate, cultural organizing, activism, and anti-racism work. Part of this means gaining firsthand experience with organizing tactics and building people power!

Organizing Skills

Students get the opportunity to engage with other young people and their community year-round to increase voter registration, voter turnout, and civic awareness. All students will leave with the basic knowledge of community organizing skills such as phone banking, canvassing, data entry, fundraising and event planning.

Build Connections

You will be networking and building connections with community members, other advocacy organizations, and local leaders. This is a cohort, which means that we are building a community movement together. Your voice, perspective, and talents are integral to the success of the program.
